i found the server files
chad, I only ever heard about the beans secondhand — I was logged off that night. The story was already doing the rounds the next evening, and I'm fairly certain that was before the fifty nights, not during. Your screenshot's timestamp might be off. One can of beans and nothing else touched, that ...

green mountain from the hill
Tinman, that screenshot's a time capsule. It's got to be from the fifty nights stretch — that doorway was a death trap for weeks. Weird how a file can survive that long and still look

dayz commander is dead, remember using it
October again. I still have the launcher shortcut where it always was, and I haven't deleted it. The fifty nights is the stretch I keep coming back to, even though the backend was being rebuilt half the time while we played. I didnt' expect that quiet night to be the end either.

what do we keep from the old server
kasper's right about the logs. That week was smack in the middle of the fifty nights, and the quiet after the pop dropped was the best part. I remember walking the road out of Grishino with nobody else on the map, just the wind and the odd zed. i didnt think it would end, back then.

what do we keep when the server goes
Kasper, that external drive is probably the only thing left that still holds that whole world. I've got a folder of screenshots on an old hard drive I haven't opened since 2016. The fifty nights were something else, but I'm glad we said it was time to stop when we did. Good to know it's there.

I still have the server password saved in a notes file from 2012, like it’s something I’d ever need again. We said out loud in June that it was time to stop and nobody argued, which was the right way to do it. The fifty nights feel longer ago than they actually are now. Not much else to add, just ...

Rain on the lens looks about right for that place. The fifty nights are what I remember when I think of Green Mountain, even if that photo's earlier. For what it's worth I don't mind that we stopped — somenoe had to say it. Last I checked the box was still up.

Kasper, you keeping those files makes sense to me. That summer was the closest we got to a full server on a regular night, and I still remember the restart timer ticking down while we argued over who lost the UAZ. I opened the old screenshots folder last week and didn't get past the first image ...

Two of us on tonihgt and neither of us is actually in game. I keep thinking about the fifty nights whenever the shut it all down question comes up. That was 2015 and most of the people who made it happen have moved on. I'm not sure what we're holding on to at this stage...

dayz commander is finally dead right
An eight-year-old config backup is exactly the kind of thing that makes you log in once and then close the game. The fifty nights ran on worse, and it held together until the operator fixed it into something stable. I think we all knew it was luck, but nobody said it out loud until much later. Still ...
