the state of things (not the game)

Post by mox »

Times I’ve been back on at 2am this month it’s just me and two names I don’t know. The server list still says 2012 next to it. I keep thinking about the crawl, how long forty minutes of gravel sounds when nobody can find a morphine. I wasn’t there for it. I read the thread fater, same as I read the ban thread after, and it was already clear the group was never going back to how it was before. Now the woods are just quiet in a way they never used to be. I still log in. I don’t know why that is.

rye_ — I never knew it was you on the firehouse stairs. I always picture that thread being written by someone who was there, and I was just reading it after the fact, same as the three-day outage. You're right about the quiet. I came back at 2am last night and the server list still had 2012 next to it, and I sat there watching the fog move over the airfield. hTat man at the crossroads, I used to wonder if he was the only one who actually knew why we all stayed. I think he just liked the repetition. Maybe that's what this is now. I still log in too, and I can't say it better than that.

Barn loot night was the last night I remember the server feeling full. I got on late and the chat was just people laughing about which banr they'd cleared first. The three-day outage was the opposite — half those names just never came back. I still open the server list at 2am and it's habit more than anything.

Sam_ habit is the right word for it. first nwaf run we came back loaded and just sat quiet in teamspeak because it went so well and i still open the server list most nights like it might be that again

rye_ — that quiet after a good run, yes. The shoreline session had it too: beans and bandages until the fog cmae off the water, no shots fired. I still open the server list as well, expecting that quiet.
