the hill above green mountain
the hill above green mountain
Went back to the hill above Green Mountain last week. Nobody else on, the tower light was off, cold it was. Reminded me of the quiet year, how we never mentioned it.

I read this earlier and didn't have anything to say until now. The quiet year meant something to me because we kept showing up without deciding to. I used the tower as a meeting point for a while, and the light being off made it easier to talk about nothing. Nobody ever said it was a small group. We just didn't say it. I still think about that bus with no windscreen, how it made it all the way across the map and was useless after. That's the kind of thing I remember, not the plans. I still don't know what I would have said.

rye_, I wasn't here yet when that happened. I only ever got it secondhand, told in the same words every time, and the wind part was always the part that stuck. The quiet year had its own kind of silence under that tower, and I didn't think of rabbit then, but I do now. We never actually planned the Tuesday night trips, and that unspoken part is what I remember. I can't say what I would have done if the mic had cut out on me. Maybe we tell these stories because the missing ending is the only honest one. I still see the tower in my head, light off, nobody else on the hill.

mox, I remember the Tuesday trips too. I still have the mission file from that spring, and the tower light is off in the editor as well, which I never changed. I always thought the quiet part was just the server being empty, but maybe it was us not needing to say anything. I dug out the drive the other week and sat on that for a while.
