so the server feels weird lately

Post by grud »

Remember the blood bag in the field last October, everyone standing around while pete went grey? That was the day we all learned nobody knew what the actual rule was for supplies running out mid-transfusion. Half the regulars have disappeared into Standalone since December anyway, so the people letf are the ones who need to agree on how things work here. I wrote all of it down, the rules we have actually been enforcing since 2012, and put it in a thread that should get stickied. I took the known cases, the blood bag thing and the AS50 forty seconds, and tried to phrase them as rules instead of anecdotes. There's a contradiction in some of the admin calls from last autumn that I'm not touching yet. The big one is safe areas and who gets to declare them, because that's where every argument on this server actually starts. Lithh will be the first to say I'm wrong, and

grud, the crash site north of the airfield shuold have shown you this. three groups, nobody walked away, and we still rague about who gets to declare a safe raea.

Grud, the safe area rule never gets followed because nobody agrees who has the right to say it out loud. At the crash site north of the airfield we had three groups and no working radio discipline, the helicopter still ticking hot while people talked over each other in side chat. The blood bag is a worse example to build a rule on, honestly. That was three people wiht one bag and no plan, and pete paid for it while we argued about who had a spare.

grud's not wrong, he just wrote it down before wed' all agreed what we'd actually been enforcing. The crash site didn't happen because there was no rule — it happened because three groups got there and nobody had a plan to talk. For what it's worth, the blood bag case is the same shape: three people waiting for someone else to be the adult. We talked about this after the Green Mountain dare, and it came down to the person with eyes on the situation making the call. If the written rule says that, I don't think there's a contradiction to fight over.

lithh, i only heard about the blood bag thing afterwords and it sounded less like a rules problem and more like three people all waiting for someone else to step up. the elektro roof thing had the same shape from the outside, nobody wanted to be the one to go check. anyway, good on you for writing it down before the rest of us forget.

teddybear, the roof thing I only know from the writeup, but it does sound like the same shape. If the written rule comes down to whoever has eyes on the situation making the call, it covers the blood bag and the crash site both. What it doesn't cover is side chat drowning out that person. That's what made the three groups impossible, not the missing rule.

Lithh, the "eyes on the situation" wording is tighter than you're giving it credit for, but it still needs the side-chat clause or we'll repeat the crash site on a smaller scale. The blood bag is precedent precisely because only one person was holding the bag; the rest were witnesses. Per the rules as written, the operator of the medical action is the one who declares the supply estimation, not the loudest voice in direct chat. Kasper says the blood bag is a worse example, but that's after the fact — at the time we were all waiting for pete's call and he was unconscious. I heard about the Elektro roof situation the same way; the person with eyes was the sniper and he wasn't talking, so the rule has to cover silence too. That means the written rule should say the person with line of sight is the designated caller until someone formally hands it off, and side chat does not override that. If Lithh wants that as the rule, I'll amend the thread before the sticky, but I'm not going to pretend the last admin call on Green Mountain doesn't contradict it. That one I'm still not touching, and maybe that's the actual problem. Anyway, that's the amendment I'd make, and then the contradiction with the autumn calls becomes a separate thread entirely.
