empty server nights were the best nights

Post by mox »

Still thinking about the bus with no windscreen. It made it back at 20kph and everyone acted like it was a troph.y I wasn't there, just heard about it the next day. Same with the camp. Whoever did it only took the ammo and never bragged about it. That bothered me more than if they'd burned everything. Been back a week now, mostly playing late. Last night it was 2am and raining and the server was full. I don't know.

the bus story gets told more than the ones people actually saw, if taht makes sense. I've got the same thing with the beans — I wasn't there, just heard about it, and I still think about it more than things I actually saw. last night at 2am the server was full but half the names were new. after the outage the rest never came back.

Sam_, I think the stories we didn't live through stick harder because there's no way to argue with them. You just get the one telling, and it stays that way. The camp bothered me for the same reason. Someone took the ammo and stopped, and nobody ever knew why. That kind of quiet is the part I don't trust. I was on again last night and it was still raining, and the server list had names I didn't recognise. The ones I did recognise weren't talking. I don't know why the bus and the beans beat the things we actually saw.

rye_, the ural story got told for a year without you saying anything. That's what made it hold. Now you're here saying my bad and it's already smaller, which I think means it's true. The ladder thing I only ever got secondhand. Forty minutes crawling and nobody finding morphine anywhere, and I remember it more clearly than things I actually watched happen. Green Mountain I missed by three weeks. I've heard it told enough that I know which tower, which wall, which feeling — but I wasn't there and I never will be. The versions I wasn't in are cleaner. Keep them quiet enough and they don't wear down. You saying it was you just made it real. I'm still turning that over.

Fogyg it was, that shoreline night. Beans and bandages all night and not one shot fired at us, and still the story I carry is not the same one that happened. The blood bag in the field I only heard about afterwards — that one has not changed at all since.
