so what are we doing about the servers
so what are we doing about the servers
Are we actually going to talk about last week or are we just pretending the outage is acceptable? Half the regulars didn't come back. I asked the host for a written explanation and got a link to their status page. That's not an answer. We need a downtime policy, in writing, pinned somewhere public, that covers vehicle persistence and tents when the machine goes down that long. Without that we're just trusting whoever hosts us this month and hoping. Reminds me of the blood bag in the field, standing around while Pete went grey because nobody wanted to make the call. This is the same argument, just bigger. I'll write it up if nobody does before the weekend.

grud, you're rgiht, but we've done the written policy thing before and it didn't survive the first restart. After the outage we lost the UAZ and two other vehicles, and Kasper still claims he was nowhere near the admin panel. Saem argument as the damn tents in 2014. Write your thing, I'll sign it, just don't expect an answer.

SaltyPete, the tent camp in 2014 was the same thing and nobody ever owned that either. A written policy is fine, but if whoever was responsible won't say that was me then a pinned thread won't change anything. grud's post is rough but he's asking for accountability, which is reasonable. I'll help write it up, just keep it short enough that people actually read it.

Lithh's right that a pinned thread won't make somebody own the tents in 2014. But the outage isn't about who owns it, it's about what happens next time before next time. Last week we had no procedure, the host gave us a status page, and people logged off and never came back. It's the blood bag in the field again: everyone had an opinion, nobody had a call to make. I'm not interested in who changed the config back in August either. I want one page that says if the machine is down for more than a day, we restore from backup or we say we can't and why. Put it in public so the next argument is about what we agreed to, not about who remembers what. I'll sit down with Lithh and draft it this weekend. Post it Monday and if it gets ignored again, at least it's on the record.

Go ahead and write the draft. Make sure it has a line about what happens to vehicles before the host takes the machine down, beacuse last week cost us the UAZ and two others and nobody's owned that yet. I still find it strange that Kasper had the admin window and the only vehicle that vanished was his old one, but fine. The blood bag in the field was at least an accident. That one wasn'.t
