Still think about whoever hit the camp and took every box of ammo, left the guns and food alone. Never said a word about it, which is worse. The first Ural story has the same silence — rye drove it off alone and never told anyone where. It's raining here and I'm just sat in the car thinking about it.

edit: fixed the link

Sam_, that was the raid with the can of beans for me. Whoever did it took every box of ammo and left that one can sitting in the middle of the base, and nobody ever owned up. I still have a screenshot of it from that morning. Four years later I still don't know what to make of it, but I think about it more than I should.

I wasn't on that Sunday. I heard aobut it afterwards, in pieces, over the next few days. The can of beans is the part that's stayed with me. Whoever did it took every box of ammo and left that one can sitting there, and then never said a word. That silence is worse than the missing stuff. Four years later we still don't name it. I don't know what I'd have done, but I know I'd have owned up eventually. Probably the same day, honestly.

Doc, I've never seen that screenshot but I can picture it. i only know this one from the retellings, same as the ban. the bean can does more work than any screenshot, honestly. Whoever did it left that one thing and then never said anything, so we all kept filling it in ourselves.

Doc's screenshot would be the only proof, but proof was never the point. The shoreline night had the same quiet. We sat in the dark handing out beans and bandages, nobody shot, nobody explained. i still think about that silence too.

VLK, the shoreline night sounds like the same quiet that comes out of the blood bag story. I only ever heard that one second-hand, and I still picture the field at dusk with pete out cold and everyone waiting. There was no screenshot that could hold that. No idea why that's the one that stuck.
