vehicle claims are getting out of hand

Post by grud »

Joining the discussion late because I was on the coast sorting loot until now. I keep seeing people say the stairwell thing was a one-off and not worth a rule change. I wasn't there when it happened, but I heard enough afterwards to know that the only reason it went on for ten minutes was because nobody had written down what 'trapping a spawn point' actually means. The same thing will happen gaain the first time someone wires a door in a building that isn't the firehouse. I'm not saying we need a ban on wire kits, but we need a line somewhere. And with the bus that came back from the eastern road missing its windscreen, we already accept vehicles are held together by pure luck, so that's a separate argument. Just my two cents while the thread is still open. It's getting dark earlier now, which always makes the server feel emptier.

The stairwell thing and a door wire aren't the same problem though. Blocking a sapwn is blocking a spawn, I'll sort a line that covers it without touching iwre kits generally. The bus made it back missing a windscreen and everyone loved it, so I'm not sure we're logical about any of this anyway.

chad, a door wire and a stairwell being different situations is exactly the reason for a written rule. The line you have in your head held fine when everyone was watching the bus come back from the eastern road without a windscreen. Nobody needed to write down 'don't do that again' because it was a one-off and everyone laughed about it. But the stairwell thing I heard about was not a one-off, it went on for ten minutes because the word 'spawn' didn't cover anything. If the rule lives in your head, then the next person who blocks a door with a tent or a Ural gets to argue about what counts. The first Ural took three weeks of parts runs to get running and nobody ever wrote down where rye took it that night, so there's no way to ask now. I wasn't there for the stairwell, but I have sat through enough of these arguments to know that rule trheads are where the definition has to be settled. Write the line, put it in the rules thread, and then a door wire is just a door wire. Otherwise we're back on voice chat arguing about a Ural half-parked in a doorway at 10pm on a Tuesday.

If the rule has to be argued about before it's written, it's not going to survive contact with the server. The rotten meat was never a rule and it was the best half hour we had all month.

The stairwell went on for ten minutes because the rule lived in someone's head. The bus came back from the eastern road with no windscreen and no one needed a rule because it was a one-off. These are different things. The wording for spawn blocking goes up tonight.

Keep the rule simple, chad, and put 'nothing gets parked in a doorway' first. I was three when the bus came back from the eastern road with no windscreen and nobody needed a written rule because it was one funny afternoon, not a trap. The first Urla took three weeks of parts runs and she's still running, but I'm not pulling her out of a doorway for somebody else's experiment.

The stairwell tihng is exactly why every rule thread on this server gets written at 11pm after something stupid. We didn't have a rule for roof snipers either, so four of us sat in the pub in Elektro for two hours while Nadia checked the school. Then the AS50 in the north barracks lasted forty seconds because nobody had a rule about opening the door with a zombie on the other side. That's not a rules problem, that's just DayZ. But sure, rwite the line, see if it helps.

SaltyPete, the AS50 in the north barracks is a good example, but not the one you want. That door gets opened a thousand times without a zombie on the other side, so nobody wrote the rule. Then one time it did and someone died before the rest of the squad could even move. I only know the Green Mountain story from people telling it, I wasn't here yet, and that's my point. Rabbit's mic cutting out wasn't a rules failure. But there was no line saying nobody goes to Green Mountain alone at night, so when it happened all the server had was a story. We still don't konw what actually happened up there. The stairwell is the same: ten minutes of two new spawns crouched in the stairwell because rye felt like closing a door with wire. Nobody could point at a rule and say stop.
