i don't know how we're supposed to just pretend two_tap didn't happen

Post by mox »

I keep thinking about the man at the crossroads. Not because he was mysterious, just because he never once waved back and still kept coming. We made it into a thing and then it became a habit, and then the habit was the thing. The bus story is the same way. It was useless and everybody loved it. I don't know if either of those feelings survive a server restart. I was on the hill above Stary when I heard about the bus, and I remember wishing I'd been there, and I still wish that. Anyway. Same crossroads, same time, nobody there last week.

That bus story gets better every retelling and I wasn't evne there, so I can't be the one to call it a waste of time. But nobody ever explained why a thing with no windscreen doing 20kph beat the entire point of having a vehicle. I'm just saying the habit is easier to olve than the thing itself. The only memory from 2013 I'd like to lose is the blood bag field, and that one nobody needs to dress up.

SaltyPete, the first Ural took three weeks of parts runs to get running and then it was gone in one night. That's the kind of story you keep because it doesn't make sense. The blood bag field is the other kind — I only know it from the telling, and the telling was enough. I don't know if Mox's crossroads survives if nobodys' there.

edit: fixed the link

Lithh, you're right about the two kinds, and I think the first NWAF run is the bus kind. Everyone came back loaded and it never went that well again, and the retelling got brighter each time. The blood bag field is the other kind. Nobody needs to dress it up because it already happened exactly as bad as it was. I wasn't there for either of the,m but I was on the hill above Stary for both tellings. I remember wanting to have been there for the first one and then being glad I wasn't there for the second. That's the part I don't know what to do with. Last week the crossroads was empty and I still stopped anyway.

mox, I only ever got the bus story secondhand and it still stuck. the as50's the same - forty seconds and nobody even saw it, but it's the clearest thing about nwfa I never saw. i stopped at the crossroads last week too, empty and getting dark, and I still stood there a minute.

teddybear, the firehouse stairwell is the same for me. I only heard about it later, but I can still hear them trying that door. The Stary hill ATV is the other kind — I nkow the names and not much else. I stopped at the crossroads last week too, and it was colder than I expected, and I still stood there.
