ARK’s Galleon Sets Sail in Survival Ascended, Genesis Transfers Open September 4

Studio Wildcard announced today that the Galleon has officially set sail in ARK: Survival Ascended. The ark galleon is the new buildable ship, and it’s a big deal for anyone who’s been waiting for a proper sea-faring base. I’ve been messing around on rafts for years, so this announcement hit me right in the nostalgia.

Honestly, I didn’t expect to care this much about a boat. But the Galleon isn’t just a boat—it’s a fortress. The idea of rolling up to an enemy base on the water with a full battery of cannons and turning a “passing disagreement into a full broadside” (their words, not mine, but I love it) is the kind of thing that makes me want to log back in. I’ve been burned by water bases before, but this feels different. It’s a canvas for fortress-style building, and that’s exactly what I’ve wanted since I first tried to build on a raft and got eaten by a Leedsichthys.

What the announcement actually says

The Galleon is described as an “absolute behemoth” that offers a massive new canvas for base building on open water. It comes backed by a battery of cannons. The timing is tied to new water physics—rolling waves and shifting seas—and the Astraeos map now reaching its completed form. So there’s more reason to leave the shoreline. The post also mentions that you can chart a course across Astraeos or brave the waters of Genesis with the Galleon.

Structure decay is temporarily disabled while they resolve lingering tribe issues from last week’s OC server outage. They plan to re-enable it next Friday, September 4, alongside the opening of transfers on Genesis Part 1. Transfers on Genesis Ascended Part 1 Official servers open on September 4th, allowing players to move items, creatures, and characters onto the map without restriction. They’ve aligned the timing with Genesis Part 1 Expires servers, giving players a couple of weeks to move everything over before those servers close on September 18th.

There’s also a note about Conquest Season 8. It’s introduced by Snail Games, focuses on large-scale PvP with increased rates. The official Conquest servers are open for PC, Xbox, and PlayStation. The season details include 18 maps, all Genesis Part 1, with two clusters: Cluster A has 12 servers that had transfers enabled with Classic before they shut down, and Cluster B has 6 servers with transfers only enabled between those 6 for 2 weeks. Transfers between Cluster A and B open on July 17th at 10 AM PT. Rates are 5x, and Tek is enabled except for Tek Grenade, Tapejara Tek Saddle, Megalodon Tek Saddle, Rock Drake Tek Saddle, Mosasur Tek Saddle, and Tek Railgun.

This weekend, the Official Network gets bonus rates until Monday, August 31. PVP/PVE gets 2x Harvesting, Taming, Experience, and Breeding. Small Tribes gets 4.5x Harvesting, Taming, and Experience plus 4x Breeding. ARKpocalypse gets 5x across the board.

The post also mentions Dododex, the companion app. They’re working on an improved stat calculator that will support tamed and bred creatures, with customizable stat grading and name suggestions from the community. It’s coming first to the web version, launch date to be announced.

What this means for players

For me, the Galleon is the headline. A buildable ship with cannons changes the game for anyone who lives on the coast or wants to raid from the water. The new water physics are a nice touch—rolling waves might actually make sailing feel less like a loading screen and more like an adventure. And Astraeos being completed means there’s a new playground to test it all out.

The Genesis transfer date is concrete: September 4. That’s next Friday. If you’ve been waiting to bring your main character and dinos over, mark your calendar. The expiry servers closing on September 18 gives you two weeks to move everything. I’ve been caught out by transfer windows before, so I’m setting a reminder now.

I’m curious how the Galleon handles in PvP. Cannons are great, but if the ship is slow, it might just be a floating target. Still, the idea of a mobile fortress is appealing. I might finally build that water base I’ve always talked about. And with bonus rates this weekend, it’s a good time to gather materials. I’ll be out there trying to tame a Megalodon with a Tek saddle—oh wait, those are banned in Conquest. Fine, regular saddle then.

Dododex’s improved stat calculator is a nice QoL update. Supporting tamed and bred creatures is long overdue. I’ve used the app for years, and this will make breeding projects so much easier. No launch date yet, but I’ll be watching.

Overall, this update feels like a solid step forward. The Galleon is the star, and the transfer date is the practical news. I’m cautiously optimistic. Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go see if I can fit a Galleon in my current base’s dock. Probably not, but that’s a problem for tomorrow.
