Deadside 1.11 Update: Speed Boost, Shootable Tires, and Boars

Bad Pixel posted the full patch notes for the Deadside 1.11 update on Steam today, and it’s live at 12:00PM CEST. I’ve been waiting for vehicle changes like this since I first got behind the wheel in Deadside. The speed boost alone is going to change how I approach every single encounter on the road.

Shootable tires are the feature I didn’t know I needed. I’ve been in too many chases where the only option was to dump mags into the driver and hope for the best. Now I can actually stop a vehicle. That’s a game changer for ambushes and it makes the whole vehicle meta feel more tactical. I’m genuinely excited to try this out.

Boars are a smart addition. I like that they’re the tankiest animal but drop the most resources. The fat to machine oil pipeline is a nice touch—it gives me a reason to actually hunt them beyond just food. I’m already planning my first boar hunt route.

What’s in the Update

The update adds three big vehicle features. First, a speed boost: press Shift while driving to get a burst of speed at the cost of extra fuel. Great for escaping, not for long trips. Second, destructible tires. A handful of accurate shots can blow them out, and if all four are gone the vehicle slows way down. The number of shots depends on your weapon’s damage. Third, vehicle skins. A new DLC lets you reskin your ride by pressing U, with four different skin sets available: Ambulance, Raptor, Sheriff, and Trex Park.

Vehicle balance got a big pass. Durability loss is down 50%, fuel consumption is reduced on several vehicles (UAZ by 23%, bike with sidecar by 10%, swamp boats by 8%), and spawn cooldowns are cut in half. The bike with sidecar gets a trunk capacity bump from 15 to 21. They also added vehicle spawners to roads and increased spawn chances across the board—motorbikes by 60%, UAZs by 20%, boats by 20%.

The mechanic workbench now requires line of sight to a vehicle to prevent decay. That’s a direct response to PvE griefing where players would leave vehicles at someone else’s base to drain their supplies. It’s a smart fix, but it comes with a cost: a full vehicle wipe on release. All existing vehicles will be deleted so the update functions correctly.

Boars are the new animal. They have the most HP of any animal in game but drop the most resources: good food, a head for decoration, and fat. Render the fat in a campfire, then combine it with other materials at an Advanced Workbench to make machine oil. That’s a new crafting chain that adds real value to hunting.

Other additions: the Khimash POI got a visual rework with more cover, the blueprints menu now shows all crafting recipes, and safe zones get repair and dismantling workbenches. Server admins can now ban players from chat. Purchased skins now work on the Fasam, Grom, BB-19, and M99.

Balance changes are extensive. Military bots with ARs and SMGs are less accurate. Equipment upgrade costs are halved. Muzzle brake and silencer crafting costs drop by 20-50%. Crossbow bolts no longer need duct tape (now 2 planks + 10 nails for 10 bolts) and the crossbow’s effective range increases by 25%. Mission counts go up across all difficulties on both PvP and PvE servers, and minimum distances between missions are reduced. Corpse life span for mission bosses jumps from 10 to 30 minutes.

Why It Matters

This is the update that makes vehicles feel like a core part of Deadside instead of a convenience. The speed boost gives you an escape tool, shootable tires give you a counter, and the balance changes make vehicles more common and cheaper to run. I think we’ll see a lot more vehicle play in the next few weeks.

The vehicle wipe is going to hurt, though. I know players who’ve spent weeks collecting and upgrading their rides. Losing all of that on patch day is a real cost. But the line of sight mechanic is necessary to stop griefing, and I’d rather have a clean wipe than a broken system.

I’m watching two things closely. First, how the boar fat to machine oil economy plays out. If machine oil becomes too easy to farm, it’ll devalue one of the game’s key resources. Second, the bot accuracy nerf. Deadside’s military bots were brutal, and I’m curious if this makes PvE too easy. The devs said nothing is final, so I expect tweaks.

This update delivers on community feedback in a big way. Vehicle combat, new wildlife, quality of life improvements, and a ton of balance tweaks. I’m logging in today to see how it all feels.
