Keen Software House dropped a new dev blog on September 24, 2026, and it’s the first real explanation of how Space Engineers Warfare 3 jump detection will actually work. Lead Designer Ryan Keel sat down to answer the big question players have been asking since the reveal: how does this stuff function in practice?
I’ll be honest, I was skeptical when Warfare 3 was first teased. Guided missiles and flare countermeasures sounded cool, but I’ve been burned by PvP updates that look great in trailers and fall apart on a live server. Jump detection is different. This is a mechanic that could genuinely change how I approach every long-range engagement, and it’s not locked behind a paywall.
How Jump Detection Works
Jump Detection is an optional world setting. When it’s enabled, large and heavy grids that use a Jump Drive leave behind a jump signature. The heavier the grid and the farther it travels, the stronger that signature becomes. Nearby players can pick up a temporary GPS marker at the destination point.
That’s the core of it. No more silent fleet movements across the map. If you’re jumping a capital ship into someone’s territory, you’re announcing your arrival to anyone close enough to read the signature. It’s a huge shift for PvP servers where stealth jumps were a standard tactic.

Keen says the feature can be disabled entirely in world settings, and the thresholds and values are accessible and customizable through modding. That’s the part that makes me optimistic. Server admins can tune exactly how much mass and distance triggers a detectable signature, or turn it off completely for servers that want to keep the old meta.
What Else Is Coming
The dev blog also confirms the Fighter Cockpit Type II (1x S), a new cockpit block described as thick and sci-fi-inspired. It’s part of the Warfare 3 Pack, which you can wishlist on Steam right now. The jump detection feature itself ships in the free game update.
I’m not going to pretend a cockpit block is headline news, but it’s a nice addition for fighter builds. The real story here is the free update. Jump detection is a PvP mechanic that could have been locked behind the paid pack, and Keen didn’t do that.
What This Means for Servers
For server admins, this is a tool with real flexibility. You can run a hardcore PvP server where every jump is broadcast to the whole map, or you can set a high mass threshold so only capital-class ships leave signatures. Modders get access to the underlying values, which means custom scenarios and detection ranges are on the table.

I’ve spent enough hours in Space Engineers to know that ambushes are a huge part of the multiplayer experience. Jump drives let you appear right on top of someone with almost no warning. This mechanic doesn’t eliminate that, but it gives defenders a fighting chance. A temporary GPS marker at the destination means you can scramble a response, set up your own ambush, or just run.
Keen says they’re excited about the gameplay opportunities this brings to multiplayer and PvP servers. I am too. It’s a simple idea executed in a way that respects both players who want more intel and servers that want to keep things quiet. That’s rare.
The Warfare 3 Pack is wishlistable now, and the free update with jump detection is coming. I’ll be watching how the modding community plays with those thresholds. If someone makes a jump signature scanner block, I’m building one immediately.
